PICK UP TIME: In Novainfancia, we aren’t strict in so far as times are concerned. The babies arrive in stages, according to the families needs. We make sure that the children are welcomed individually; this way they feel comforted from the very start of the school day.
- ASSEMBLY: During the first activity of the day we make a circle and say good morning and pass register with the use of photographs, this helps them get to know themselves and their companions. Finally we sing a song related to the topic of interest we are working on (the body, the class room, the family etc…).
-
RELAXATION MASSAGE AND MID MORNING NAP:
“Babies aren’t only nurtured by food, they need principally love and affection, which proportions them emotional security and an emotional comfort allowing them to grow more harmoniously”; it is for this reason that we belong to AEMI (the Spanish Infant Massage Association). We use this technique for the purpose of creating links between the young infants (preferably during the first year and a half of life) and their mothers/fathers and carers.
Benefits: The infant massage provides benefits at different levels such as at a physiological level, giving sensorial pleasure, equilibrium tension - relaxation; it is a liberating function and an affective link.
-
ACTIVITIES: Activities are carried out every day of the week, always approaching the subject of senses; a day is established to work through each one of them. We adapt the activities to their level of development, helping their growth.
For example: for smell we ask that the family bring in daddy’s tie or mummy’s scarf and we give it to the children to smell, it is amazing to see their reactions. For sight we work with torches, which help them differentiate between light and dark, with projections of a number of images and slides of them themselves. They feel a range of materials with different textures, stimulating touch. Hearing is one of the most fun senses to stimulate; we play classical and contemporary music and play with a diapason to encourage their ability to distinguish tones.
- PLAY TIME:
There is nothing better than playing in the open air. Play is their principal means of development and knowledge of the world that surrounds them and it is for this reason that special attention is given to it. We take the babies out in their loungers into the open air, if it’s good weather, and when they are a little older we organise games and give them free reign to learn how to connect with their companions.
-
WASHING AND ABDOMEN MASSAGE:
After play time a good face and hand wash, nappy change; abdomen massage to avoid or solve gastric problems is essential and then …ready for the table.
-
DINNING ROOM:
In the first stage we work in different ways depending on the ages and the necessities of the children. We give the babies their bottle (in arms) as we consider that bodily contact with their educators is fundamental. For those children who eat baby food, we prepare it ourselves but adopt the “thermo or packed lunch” option, mummies and daddies bring us the food each day. Those who eat purees also follow the “thermo” option, we understand that it is the best way to respect, strictly, what the paediatricians have introduced to each one of their diets (beef, fish, vegetables…); they are fed in their loungers and when they reach the stage where they are able to sit up right on their own, we sit them at the table and give them a spoon so they can experiment and manipulate themselves.
Last of all for all those who have passed the previous phases, mummy and daddy are free to choose the “thermo” option or school dinners.
- NAP:
Each baby has a crib with their name, we consider that the more personalised the better. The norm is that after eating they sleep between an hour and a half to two hours, although we take into account each child’s particular sleep rhythm, and respect the mid morning nap for those who need it.

PICK UP TIME: After a comforting nap we clean them up and make them “handsome/beautiful” to be picked up by mummy and daddy and say goodbye until tomorrow!. |
